Fixing default SEO titles and descriptions

The SEO title and description are the two lines a search engine shows for a product page. When either one is empty, Shopify falls back to its default: the product title, and text taken from the description. Fillwell writes both lines from the product's own details for you to review.

How to write SEO titles and descriptions

1. On Home, open the Default SEO check in the SEO card and click Improve SEO.
2. Each product has two lines: Title and Meta, which is the SEO description. Click Fill & review to draft both lines for every product on the page.
3. To draft one line only, point at it and click its Fill button. Once a line has a draft, the button becomes Reset, which puts that line back.
4. Click a line to edit it, then click Done. To steer the AI, type a note under Prompt for this product, such as a keyword to include, and click Fill.
5. Click Save this page.

Good to know

• A product is on the default when its SEO title or its SEO description is empty. One empty line is enough, and the product leaves the check only when both lines have text.
• Fill & review drafts both lines, even when one already had your own text. To keep yours, click Reset on that line before you save.
• The AI aims for about 50 characters in the title and never more than 60, and about 140 in the description and never more than 160. That is roughly what Google shows. The editor does not stop you typing more.
• The AI does not add your store name to the title, because most themes add it. When a product has few details, it writes a shorter line and does not invent any details.
• The AI reads the title, description and product type. Tags are not read unless you add them under Sources.
• Brand voice starts selected under Sources on this queue. It sets style and tone only. If your brand voice setting is empty, nothing is added.
• Each line the AI wrote costs one AI credit when you save, so one product can cost two. Filling a single line costs one. A page of 25 products can cost up to 50 credits, and the confirmation shows the number before anything is written.
• Bulk fill & save under More actions does every product in one run and needs a paid plan.
• To rewrite SEO on products that already have their own, open Custom jobs and choose Set product SEO title & description. It lists every product and needs a paid plan.
