Filling missing product categories
A product category tells Shopify, Google and AI shopping tools what a product is. Fillwell finds the products that have none and picks one for each from Shopify's own category list. You check the picks and save.
How to fill missing categories
- On Home, open the Category check in the Categories card and click Fill categories.
- Click Fill & review. Fillwell picks a category for each product on the page. To fill one product, click the Fill button on its row.
- Check each pick. The row shows the last two levels of the category.
- Click Save this page.
How to change a category by hand
- Click the category in the row. The picker opens at the level of the current pick, which has a tick beside it.
- Type in the search box to find a category by name. Each result shows its parent on the right, so you can tell two categories with the same name apart.
- Or browse. Click the arrow at the end of a line to open its subcategories, and the line at the top of the list to go back up.
- Click a category to pick it, then click Done. Clicking the ticked category again removes the pick. Reset puts the row back as it was.
Good to know
- A product counts as missing a category when it has none, or when it sits in Shopify's Uncategorized category. An Uncategorized product shows as empty in the list.
- The AI can only choose from Shopify's list, so it never invents a category. It reads the title, product type, tags and description, and picks the most specific category that describes the product itself, not an accessory or part for it. Sources changes what it reads.
- When nothing fits, the row stays empty with a skipped pill. Click the pill for the reason, such as No confident match. Then pick a category by hand.
- A category the AI picked costs one AI credit, charged when you save. A category you picked yourself is free. An AI pick you then change by hand still costs its credit.
- A page holds 25 products. Bulk fill & save under More actions does every product in one run and needs a paid plan. In a bulk run, a product the AI could not place still uses a credit.
- The Category attributes check only looks at products that have a category. Fill categories first, then click Rescan.
- To change categories on products that already have one, open Custom jobs and choose Categorize products. It lists every product, has a Manual mode that sets one category on all of them, and needs a paid plan.
