Merge duplicate vendors and tags
Over time a store collects several spellings of one vendor or tag, such as "Ember & Clay" and "ember and clay". Filters and collections then treat them as different values. Fillwell finds these groups and lets you merge each one into a single spelling.
How to merge a group
- On Home, open the Catalog structure card, click Vendors or Tags, then click Review fixes. You can also get there from Build a custom job.
- Each row is one group of spellings. Next to each spelling is the number of products that use it.
- Check the Merge into value. Fillwell picks the spelling used on the most products. Pick another spelling from the list, or pick Something else… and type the name you want.
- To keep one spelling out of the merge, click the X on it. Click the spelling again to put it back.
- If a group is not really duplicates, click Ignore. Ignored groups move to a list under the table, each with Restore.
- Click the save button above the table, then click Merge in the confirmation. Rows with no Merge into value stay in the list.
How to merge values Fillwell did not group
- Go to the last row of the last page and click Choose a vendor… or Choose a tag….
- Tick every value you want to merge. They become one row.
- Pick the Merge into value for that row, then save.
Good to know
- A merge changes the value on every product in your store that uses it. Your scan filters do not narrow it.
- Vendors are grouped when they differ by capitals, spacing, punctuation or a close misspelling. Tags are grouped only when they differ by capitals, spacing, punctuation, or "&" against "and". A tag that differs by letters is treated as a different tag.
- Finding the groups and merging them uses no AI credits.
- A save that changes 25 products or fewer happens at once. A larger one runs in the background as a job, with progress on the page and in Activity. Background jobs need a paid plan, so on the free plan the save button locks for a large merge.
- Every merge is listed in Activity, where you can undo it. If you undo, the group shows up here again.
- Two rows cannot change the same value in one save. Fillwell stops and says so: Two rows change the same vendor. Change one row, then save again.
- The page checks your store by itself when you open it. There is no rescan button. Reload the page to check again.
