Fix product titles
Fillwell checks every product title against Google Merchant Center's title rules and a few search best practices. The Fix product titles page lists each title that breaks a rule, says which rules, and lets AI draft a clean title for you to review.
How to fix titles
- On Home, open the Titles card, click Title issues, then click Review fixes.
- Under each title is the list of rules it breaks. Click a rule name to see the reason. Each one is marked Merchant Center rule or Search best practice.
- Click Fill & review. Fillwell drafts a new title for each product on the page. Or type a title yourself.
- Read the drafts and edit any you want to change.
- Click Save this page. The titles are written to your store and leave the list.
- To do every flagged title at once, open More actions and pick Bulk fill & save. It runs as a background job and needs a paid plan.
What gets flagged
- Merchant Center rules: over 150 characters, promotional text such as "sale" or "free shipping", a price, a sale date or other time-limited text, your store's name, symbols or repeated punctuation, HTML, and extra spaces.
- Search best practices: longer than 70 characters, shorter than 12 characters or a single word, starting with a model number, starting with "Copy of", and one word repeated three or more times.
Good to know
- Drafting is free. AI credits are spent when you save a title that AI wrote. A title you typed yourself costs nothing.
- The rewrite changes as little as it can. It removes what breaks a rule and keeps the words that say what the product is, such as color, size and model name.
- A draft is only offered if it passes every rule. If AI cannot produce one, the row gets no draft and costs nothing.
- For a title that is too short, the rewrite can add the vendor or the product type. It does not invent details. Use Sources to choose what it reads.
- Your store's name is flagged even when it is also the brand, because Merchant Center asks you to keep your company's name out of titles.
- Titles in all caps and duplicate titles are separate checks on Home. Each has a report to download and is not fixed on this page.
- The list comes from your last scan, so it follows your scan filters. If the page says Your catalog was scanned after this check last ran. Reload the page to refresh these findings., reload it.
- Saved titles are listed in Activity, where you can undo them.
