Category attributes
Every Shopify product category expects attributes such as color, material or size, each with a list of allowed values. Fillwell finds the products whose category expects an attribute that has no value, and helps you fill it. The values are saved as Shopify's own category attributes, so they show in your Shopify admin.
How to find an attribute to fill
- On Home, open the Category attributes check and click Fill attributes. The Fill category attributes page opens.
- Use By field to see each attribute across your store, with a count of the products where it is empty.
- Or use By category, find a category, and click Next →. That category's page lists only its own attributes under Choose an attribute to fill. Each category counts the products in its subcategories too.
- Attributes under In this store are ready: click Fill →. Attributes under Not enabled in this store need Add to store first.
How to fill it
- On the fill page, click Fill & review. For each product the AI picks from the values Shopify allows for that attribute.
- Change a pick by clicking the value. To give every product the same value, set Mode to Manual, pick the value, and click Fill all.
- Click Save this page. For the whole list, use Bulk fill & save under More actions (paid plans only).
Good to know
- Add to store cannot be undone from Fillwell. Shopify does not let apps remove a standard attribute once it is added.
- A product with no category cannot get attributes. When some of your products have none, the page shows a Categorize products button.
- Counts come from your scan. After you add an attribute or change your filters, the fill page can show Not scanned yet. Click Rescan in the filter bar. The button reads Rescanning while the scan runs, and the page refreshes on its own when it finishes.
- Some attributes are linked, such as a color and a pattern that share one field. The page names them together and each product row has one value picker per part.
- When the product's details say nothing about the attribute, the AI leaves the row empty. Pick a value yourself or click Fill on that row to try again.
- From Build a custom job, Set category attributes opens the same pages for every categorized product, not only the ones with an empty value. Custom jobs need a paid plan.
- Each value the AI wrote costs one AI credit when you save it. Values you picked yourself are free.
