What counts as a gap

A gap is a product field that is empty, or too thin to be useful, that Fillwell can fill for you. Each gap is one row on Home with a count and a button that opens the products to fix. Other rows on Home are checks that Fillwell finds but does not fill, such as a missing return policy.

The gaps

  • Category: the product has no Shopify product category, or sits in Shopify's Uncategorized category.
  • Category attributes: the product's category expects an attribute you have added to your store, such as color, size or material, and the value is empty. The count is attribute values, not products: one attribute empty on 11 products counts as 11. Attributes you have not added to your store never count.
  • Thin or empty, under Descriptions: the description has fewer than 30 words once formatting is removed.
  • Default SEO: the SEO title or the SEO description is empty, so Shopify uses its default.
  • Alt text: at least one product image has no alt text. The row gives the number of images and the number of products.
  • Translations: one row for each published language other than your main one. A product counts when it has a description in your main language and none in that language. A product with no description at all is not counted here.

How to refresh the counts

  1. Open Home. The time of the last scan is at the right of the Show row.
  2. Click Rescan in the Search and filter bar.
  3. Wait for the counts. A scan of fewer than 1,000 products takes seconds. A larger one runs in the background and can take a few minutes, and the rows keep their last counts, dimmed, until the new ones arrive.

Good to know

  • Counts only cover the products your scan filters match. If you scan Active products from one vendor, every gap count is for those products only.
  • A product leaves a gap when Fillwell saves a value for it, or when you fill the field in your Shopify admin and scan again.
  • Fillwell recounts by itself. A store under 1,000 products is recounted when you open Home and the last scan is more than an hour old. A larger store starts a background scan when you open Home and the last scan is more than 6 hours old.
  • A row marked Unscanned or Failed has no count yet. Click Scan on that row.
  • Ignore issue moves a row into the ignored line of its card. Restore brings it back.
  • Finding gaps is free. AI credits are spent only when you save values that AI wrote.
